While searching the crime scene, Jane Rizzoli and Vince Korsak discover a man hiding in the bushes who attempts to bite Korsak. This witness, nicknamed "McGruff," is suffering from a psychotic break and believes he is a wolf. The Boston Police Department investigates a series of sniper attacks in Franklin Park. The shooter is meticulous, leaving behind streamers to measure wind speed but very little forensic evidence.
