Leo frowned. He picked up his phone. The screen was black. He pressed the power button, but nothing happened. He looked out his apartment window. A pigeon was suspended in mid-air outside his glass, its wings locked in a downward stroke. A horn from the street below was frozen in time, stretched out into a low, endless, vibrating drone that sounded like a tectonic plate shifting. We could look at who created the file
Leo stood up, his joints feeling strangely light. He walked to his kitchen. A drop of water was bulging from the faucet, refusing to fall. He poked it with his finger; it felt thick, like gelatin. He picked up his phone
But by the "fourth day" of his isolation, the silence began to curdle.
He went back to his computer. The waves on the track were still rolling in. Leo smiled, sat down in his chair, and opened a blank text document. The cursor blinked once every three minutes.
He reached for the power strip under his desk and flipped the physical switch to off.
