David Bowie 's 1984 studio album is widely regarded as one of the most polarizing and fascinating entries in his massive discography. Released on September 24, 1984, through EMI America Records , it served as the direct follow-up to his massive commercial blockbuster Let's Dance .

The album features a massive amount of collaboration with his longtime friend Iggy Pop. Bowie used the record heavily to help generate royalties and financially assist Pop, covering multiple songs they had worked on together in the late '70s.

Tonight was recorded at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Canada. Coming off the back of the massive Serious Moonlight Tour, Bowie was experiencing a bout of writer's block and actively attempting to keep the massive pop audience he had just acquired.
