Thinking it was a creative writing prompt, Elias typed his own name. The screen went dark for three seconds. Then, a low-bitrate video feed began to play. It wasn't a pre-recorded clip. It was a live, overhead shot of his own apartment, rendered in a grainy, 1990s survival-horror aesthetic. Then, a new prompt appeared at the bottom

Before he could reach for the keyboard, the 'Y' key depressed itself.

A notification popped up:

A heavy thud echoed from his hallway—the real one. Elias looked toward his bedroom door. On the monitor, the "camera" angle shifted to the hallway. A tall, distorted figure with no face was pixelating into existence right outside his room.
